Covid19 Measures - PLEASE READ THIS IMPORTANT INFORMATION
In order to reassure my clients, I have completed a Risk Assessment in order to return to close contact work. The following information outlines:
the measures which have been put in place to mitigate the risks
the adaptations to practice
the new procedures which I as a therapist will utilise.
As this is a novel virus and the guidance keeps evolving, these procedures will need to be reviewed and reassessed on a frequent basis to ensure that they continue to minimise the risks. The information in this will also be reviewed in line with government guidance and advice from professional bodies.
The WHO states:
“Data from published epidemiology and virologic studies provide evidence that COVID-19 is primarily transmitted from symptomatic people to others who are in close contact through respiratory droplets, by direct contact with infected persons, or by contact with contaminated objects and surfaces.”
I have a duty of care to have measures in place to reduce the risk of transmission for:
Myself and other practitioners – to ensure that I respect a safe working environment and to follow and have procedures in place which will minimise the risks for those working in the clinic.
Clients – to provide a safe environment and follow safe guidance which clients feel confident to come in to.
Other people such as my own family, one of whom is extremely clinical vulnerable, and the loved ones of my other clients.
Your first appointment will include:
an initial consultation by phone or Zoom (to maximise our time in person for hands on therapy). This can be booked here.
a Covid screening assessment - either by my online COVID-19 Screening Form or by phone the day before your hands on appointment
your hands on therapy treatment
Please ** do NOT **attend your hands on treatment if you have symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19). If you test positive - you must self-isolate in accordance with the government guidance from the onset of symptoms. Please inform me that you need to cancel asap.
The symptoms of Coronavirus as stated by www.nhs.uk are:
a high temperature above (≥37.8C or 100F) – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
a new, continuous cough or worsening cough if you usually have a cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours
loss of taste and smell (anosmia)
If you are living with anyone who is symptomatic - you must follow the government guidance and self-isolate (quarantine) for 14 days (subsequently, if you develop symptoms or test positive you must self-isolate for 10 days)
Contact the NHS Test & Trace service for testing if you are symptomatic or concerned you may have coronavirus or call NHS 119.
Based on the latest advice, hands-on treatments will be kept to a maximum of 45 minutes. I am only able to see a few clients each day due to the extended time of extra cleaning and room ventilation.
What to bring:
Please note as of 8th August 2020 for in person appointments it is mandatory to wear a face mask or covering for complementary therapy close contact clients and you will be asked to wash your hands upon arrival. Please bring your own mask so that you feel comfy. You can choose to wear your mask before coming in or wash your hands first and then don your mask once your hands are clean.
Arriving for your appointment:
You will be asked to arrive for your appointment and wait outside. I will come to the door to greet you.
Once in the clinic you will be able to use either the hand sanitiser in the hallway or to wash your hands with soap and water. Then you can don your mask (so you have clean hands) unless you are exempt.
Social distancing of 2m will be used at all times in the clinic apart from when I am working hands on with therapies.
The toilet is available in emergencies.
During the treatment:
For the treatment I will be wearing a visor and a mask. You will be asked to place your belongings such as socks and coat in a lidded box during the treatment. Conversation will be kept to a minimum, to reduce any potential risk, as all the consultation will have been done before via phone or online. At the end of the session I hope you will feel relaxed and calm. You will need to keep your mask on and please avoid shaking the linens. Instead please gather your belongings and avoid touching any surfaces unnecessarily. There is a hand sanitiser on the way out and I will safely escort you from the clinic.
You will receive aftercare advice and I am in the process of making some more aftercare resources for my website. If you require more extensive self care this can be done as an interactive online appointment.
If a client develops Covid-19 symptoms after visiting the clinic:
If you experience symptoms within 2-3 days of visiting the clinic, please contact me.
Anyone with indirect contact with the client should be advised of the situation and suggest they monitor for symptoms (those with indirect contact with suspected cases do not need to self-isolate).
The appointment system enables the clinic to record which practitioners are in on which days as well as the clients. All appointments are to be pre-booked plus the Covid Screening Form enables me to manage and keep track of who is coming in. Anyone with symptoms will need to self-isolate for 7 days. If a household member develops symptoms, then self-isolation will need to be for 14 days from when the first person in the house started to have symptoms.
CLEANING & HYGIENE PRECAUTIONS
Frequent handwashing, 2m distance rules inside the venue and hand sanitisers in all rooms including the entrance have been implemented. Regular daily and weekly cleaning procedures of all contact surfaces are already in place. However, additional and more stringent cleaning procedures are in place for both the therapy rooms and entry area which includes using disinfectant before and after each patient.
Door handles, chair arms, light switches, taps and any touch points for clients will be wiped down before and after clients. Couches, pillows and bolsters are all wipeable and will be cleaned after every client with disinfectant.
Linens will be fresh for every client as per usual. These are brought in clean lidded boxes for each client. The bin in the treatment room has a lid. Used linens will be placed in the lidded box and removed safely from the premises and washed on 60C. The box is then wiped out with disinfectant.
The toilet and wash basins will be wiped down as will the hand sanitiser bottles after use.
The clinic building is well ventilated during opening times. Windows will be open in the clinic rooms during treatment as much as possible, weather pending.
I will be taking my temperature on clinic days. If I develop symptoms then I will cancel appointments and notify NHS Test and Trace and will contact my clients.
Please note the government guidance says to wear gloves for close contact work - ‘Unless crucial for the treatment, avoiding skin to skin contact and use gloves where possible.’ However, I will not be wearing gloves as it would diminish the treatment I can give. I wash my hands thoroughly, up to my elbows, before and after every treatment (there are washbasins in each treatment room as well as hand sanitiser) and also as and when any hygiene need arises during a treatment.
For the foreseeable future, based on my risk assessment, my services are not recommended for people who were shielded and regarded as extremely clinical vulnerable. Instead, if you need bodywork then you may wish to contact an osteopath (we have several in this area including Natasha McLeod and Helen Wither.
I can hold an online session for complementary therapy based relaxation and stress management with you so please do contact me.
