Massage Therapy

Massage helps you to love your body and heal your world

COMING BACK SOON - SEE REFLEXOLOGY FOR NOW

The power of touch and massage is profound.  Massage therapy increases the quality of your life by managing pain and your sense of physical and emotional health.   Our bodies often pick up tension and strains from everyday activities.  Muscular pain and discomfort can impinge on our wellbeing. Massage therapy and soft tissue release help bring about relief for overtired and recovering muscles as well as give a deep sense of relaxation.

I use different types of massage as the tools in my toolbox to help with relaxation and muscular aches and pains. I work with a blend of Western and Eastern massage techniques including traditional Swedish, acupressure/Amma fusion and clinical massage techniques such as myofascial release, stretching and Trigger Point therapy. My philosophy to bodywork is slow rather than fast.  I also hold a good working knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy.  I have learned massage therapy protocols for Shoulder & Neck Pain, Hip & Leg, Wrist and Arm plus Lower Back Pain.

If you have any questions please use my Contact page.    Please note the working weight of my couch is not over 24 stone and for health and safety reasons with my equipment I may not go over this.  Each appointment will require a covid19 screening assessment via phone.

How long will your massage last? (Covid19 NEW)

Your first massage appointment includes an online or phone consultation.  Hands on is 45 minutes to minimise infection risk.

What to expect:

Please have a thorough wash in the morning before you attend.  It will make you feel more confident and also helps your muscles to loosen with the heat. Your first session will include:

a)  a consultation including your medical history and any problems you are experiencing and when they started so I can plan.  You will be asked to sign a consent form.

b) an assessment which will be visual and I may ask to palpate (touch) you (all with your consent) and then the massage itself.

What should I wear?

You will be appropriately draped with towels or sheets to protect your modesty whilst on the couch. I will wait outside the room while you undress to your underwear, get onto the couch, and cover yourself with a clean sheet. You will keep on your underwear - please make sure it is comfy. I can also give you a couch-based but clothed massage using Amma (Eastern) style techniques - please wear appropriate, comfortable and loose fitting clothes.

What should I do during the massage session?

Prior to and during the massage, feel free to ask any questions or give feedback you may have. During the massage I will do my utmost to make you comfortable and may need to move you or ask you to lift your arms or legs. Many people close their eyes and relax and it is important for me to know if an area feels tender or if you are warm and comfortable enough through your feedback.

How frequently do you need massage?

As often as you like!  For particular problems such as back, neck/shoulders, hands or leg/feet or face/jaw (e.g. for Golfer’s elbow, piriformis syndrome, TMJ etc) then a course of 1-6 successive weekly massages is recommended for the most benefit. The massage treatment will be adapted according to your needs and these will be discussed during the consultation. It is then advisable to have a monthly maintenance session.
