Massage helps you to love your body and heal your world
The power of touch and massage is profound. Massage therapy involves the soft tissue such as the muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and other connective tissues. It increases the quality of your life by managing musculoskeletal pain and your sense of physical and emotional health. Our bodies often pick up tension and strains from everyday activities. Muscular pain and discomfort can impinge on our wellbeing. Massage therapy and soft tissue release help bring about relief for overtired and recovering muscles as well as give a deep sense of relaxation.
My philosophy to bodywork is about integrative techniques using different types of massage as the tools in my clinical toolbox to help with relaxation and muscular aches and pains. I work with a blend of Western and Eastern massage techniques including:
soft tissue release
Trigger Point therapy
I am certified in massage therapy protocols from the Jing Institute of Clinical Massage for Shoulder & Neck Pain, Hip & Leg, Wrist and Arm plus Lower Back Pain. I also hold a first year Soft Tissue Release certificate from the College of Osteopaths.
What to expect (in line with close contact guidance on Covid):
To book your first appointment you will first require:
an online or phone consultation of 15-30 minutes including your medical history and any problems you are experiencing and when they started so I can plan. I may ask to do a Zoom call with you in order to allow me to see your range of movement for particular muscles and to give me a thorough understanding of what you require. If treatment is suitable to go ahead then we will book in your massage therapy appointment.
The massage treatment will be adapted according to your needs and these will be discussed during the consultation.
If there is a particular soft tissue issue that is causing problems then I will usually focus on the first treatment with a more general assessment massage therapy session and then subsequent appointments will focus and hone in on the specific issue.
At your appointment:
you will be asked to sign a consent form
hands on appointment is 45 minutes
you will be informed of general aftercare and then you may receive a few specific self care pointers
What should I wear?
You will be appropriately draped with towels or sheets to protect your modesty whilst on the couch. I will wait outside the room while you undress to your underwear, get onto the couch, and cover yourself with a clean sheet. You will keep on your underwear - please make sure it is comfy. I can also give you a couch-based but clothed massage using Amma (Eastern) style techniques - please wear appropriate, comfortable and loose fitting clothes. You may wish to bring a hair comb or brush to neaten your hair afterwards. Also as I use a massage wax, although I will do my utmost to keep it off, it may end up in your hair.
Please have a thorough wash in the morning before you attend.
What should I do during the massage therapy session?
Prior to and during the massage, feel free to ask any questions you may have. During the massage I will do my utmost to make you comfortable. It is important for me to receive feedback during the treatment such as if an area feels tender or if you are warm and comfortable enough. I may need to move you or ask you to participate in stretching and active movement such as lifting your arms or legs.
How frequently do you need massage?
As often as needed! For particular problems such as back, neck/shoulders, hands or leg/feet or face/jaw (e.g. for Golfer’s elbow, piriformis syndrome, TMJ etc) then a course of 1-6 successive weekly massages is recommended for the most benefit. This allows me to work through with you and you may be asked to do some self care techniques at home to ensure progress is made between sessions. It is then advisable to have a monthly maintenance session.
If you have any questions please use my Contact page. Please note the working weight of my couch is not over 24 stone and for health and safety reasons with my equipment I may not go over this.
Each hands on appointment will require a covid19 screening form to be completed 24 hours before.
