Aftercare Advice

After your treatment session you can maximise the benefit of your treatment by following these simple steps. Remember to book in a follow up for maximum benefits.

As you may feel drowsy after a therapy session wind the window down a little if you are driving back from your appointment to improve concentration.
​
Rest and Digest
Rest and take it easy or after an evening appointment get a good night’s sleep by listening to your body and going to bed earlier. Instead of screen time read a book or listen to music.
​​
Eat lightly for the next 24 hours and avoid tobacco, alcohol and stimulants such as caffeine and high sugar or ultra processed foods.

Keep Hydrated
Drink more water/fluids for the next 24 hours to rehydrate tissue including muscles and aid elimination of waste products. Have a glass nearby so you can sip from it through the day.

​After Massage
Remember to do your self care exercises between sessions. It is important to keep moving but avoid overly strenuous activites immediately after your appointment.
For muscle tension gentle heat such as from a warm bath or warm hotwater bottle or wheatbag on the area may help. Epsom salt baths for the days after massage may help relax (please note that soaking in bath salts does not help you absorb magnesium but it can help with relaxation and soothing the skin).

Use cold water bursts contrasting with your regular shower temperature the next day to help circulation to the soft tissue that has been worked on.

After Aromatherapy
If you were given a treatment with an aromatherapy product then it is best to leave it on for 12 hours to allow it to be absorbed (use a towel on your pillow to stop any oil going through) and maximise on its therapeutic benefits. To wash oiled hair, apply the shampoo and then water and then wash as normal. Please be ware of using other products as they may interact until you have washed.

Avoid strong sunlight or sunbeds if you have received aromatherapy products especially with citrus type essential oils as they are photosensitising in UV light.

Avoid ​​swimming for 12 hours if you have had Ear Candling

Contra-actions
Some clients may experience emotional or physical symptoms during or for 12-24 hours after a treatment. These are called contra-actions and are a sign of release and may include:

laughing/giggling

crying/tearfulness
-
reddening of the skin called erythema (this is due to increased circulation)

light bruising
-
more frequent bowel and urine elimination as your body’s metabolism increases
-
lightheadedness
-
headaches
-
occasionally mild cold-like symptoms such as a runny nose for the 24 hours following treatment
-
feeling more tired (most people report that they have a really deep sleep the night following a treatment)
