Stress Management


Stress can be an issue that many people face. Stress in our life has both physical and emotional aspects and also some stress is necessary. It is when stress starts to become distress that it can become an issue.   Our lives constantly throw stressful situations at us including work-related stress life-changing circumstances such as:

  • bereavement

  • illness

  • childbirth 

  • moving house

  • relationship issues

  • career changes


We are always having to adapt.  Our body’s response to stress may help or hinder us depending on our reactions and the coping mechanisms we have in place.


When stress is positive studies have shown it can motivate us and without it our lives can become stagnant.  A positive effect of being under short-term stress is that we may work more quickly to get things done and take action.  It can help focus our thoughts and increase how we process information and develop our levels of awareness to resolve problems we may be facing.  If we have a deadline we spend less time dawdling. However, being under stress on a continuous or overwhelming basis can have a negative effect and this is when we experience distress.  We can feel unable to function and this can have grave repercussions on our physical and mental wellbeing.

Longterm negative stress can lead to exhaustion, depression and an inability to cope.  Health problems may develop such as headaches or migraines, anxiety, digestive disorders, skin problems, insomnia, ulcers, high blood pressure and heart disease.  


Managing our stress before it reaches this stage can help us to:

  • relax

  • focus

  • unwind

  • sleep well

  • support wellbeing

Stress Management is about working with the optimal level of stress which will motivate but not overwhelm you so that you can cope with day-to-day issues.  Instead of feeling like you are drowning in stress, I will help you to manage your stress using complementary therapies and show you techniques that will help you to feel more relaxed and more in control.   Where necessary I will also signpost you to other resources and practices.

I am able to teach you self care using techniques derived from the therapies I practice such as basic hand reflexology, guided visualisations from Colour and Crystal Therapy, aromatherapy and also ensure that you are creating healthy lifestyle habits with health coaching.
