I was invited to guest blog some years back for the BodyMind Institute. They are now part of the UXel learning group and no longer have their recipes and blog posts so I am posting this delicious recipe here instead.
"This morning I made a delicious buckwheat smoothie for my daughter and me. Buckwheat is not a wheat or even a grain but a seed relative of the rhubarb family – it is therefore gluten free. It contains fat and protein so can make a great breakfast meal to get an energetic start to the day.
In Chinese medicine it is viewed as a Yang food, i.e., it helps you to warm up. Here’s the recipe:
Ingredients
1/2 cup of buckwheat (soaked in water overnight and rinsed well)
1 tspn cinnamon*
1 banana
1 cup of almond milk (or other favourite plant-based milk)
1 heaped tspn of lacuma powder
Method
Add all of the above to your blender and whizz up.
Serve in a glass and drink away.
* look for Ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) if you can although if you are only using 1 teaspoon then Chinese cinnamon (cassia) is fine.
I would love to hear from you in the comments if you try the recipe and what you think of it.
