Edible flowers

This was a cake my daughter and I made for her grandma's birthday. The flowers are forsythia which are an early spring flower. Did you know that in small quantities they are edible too?

We eat quite a few flowers from the garden. We used to have elder bushes and trees in our old garden and I would make elderflower cordial and also elderberry syrup. I also eat violets (not African violets which are a different species), rose petals and carnations amongst others.

Disclaimer: please check first that you have correctly identified any flowers you may eat. Please do not pick wild flowers and do not eat flowers that have been sprayed with pesticides nor fertilisers.
